I am currently pursuing a PhD at Aarhus University, where my research project is titled ‘Intergenerational Migration Strategy, Remittances and Investment in Transnational Education Migration in Nepal.’ This project explore process of education-related migration in light of increasing commercialization and internationalisation of education in Nepal.

Prior to starting my PhD, I worked as a migration researcher for over six years at the Centre for the Study of Labour and Mobility (CESLAM), Social Science Baha, Nepal, concentrating on migration-related issues, particularly in Nepal and South Asia. During my master’s degree at the University of Copenhagen I independently conducted a study on rural livelihood and environmental income in Nepal for my thesis. This initial focus on rural livelihoods gradually evolved into a deep academic interest in migration, which has shaped my research direction since.

Over the years, I have worked extensively on labour and student migration, reviewing policies and literature, developing research instruments, and engaging in both qualitative and quantitative data analysis. I have written and published several reports and academic papers and contributed to the preparation of technical and financial proposals for migration-related projects. My research has involved data collection through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and life history interviews, engaging diverse groups such as migrant workers, formal and informal labourers, government officials, political leaders, and representatives from NGOs.

I have had the privilege of collaborating with a range of national and international organizations, including Nepal’s Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the International Labour Organization (ILO), UN Women, Yale University, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), and the International Institute for Population Sciences, India.
