Abstract

At the University of Copenhagen we have the talent and excellence program, UCPH Forward. Participants are selected based on clear criteria, including academic track record, ability to define learning target, and to formulate a vision. The program lasts 10 months and requires 20 % of the participants’ time. It consists of monthly full-day sessions, two retreats, coaching and ‘tracks’ (e.g., running, application writing).

It addresses hardcore promotable academic skills such as time management, fundraising, writing, creation of CVs and a range of academic background reading assignments. This is coupled to the individual skills of the participants, including various psychological profiles, coping, coaching, exercise and sleep, and sense of purpose. We also address authority, alliances, networking with influential people, leadership, role models, mentoring, and research policies. We use all locations of the UCPH and its history and organization to enhance the understanding of being part of a large comprehensive university. The program is unique because led by professors, and because it targets the mid-career scholar group. We tailor the course around the concept of career sustainability. Our hope is that it will help change academia from within and lead to more sustainable individual careers as well as more valuable research.

A Zoom-link will be shared with the participants closer to the event.
