Course Plan:
The course will run all days from 9 – 16, but ending Friday at 14 30.

Monday Morning: Two basic positions in the philosophy of science and their ramifications – introduction to issues

Monday Afternoon: Schools of Thought in the Human and Social Sciences - Hermeneutics and Phenomenology

Tuesday Morning: Schools of Thought – Structuralism and Critical Theory

Tuesday Afternoon: Schools of Thought – Postmodernism and Social Constructivism

Wednesday Morning: Explanation and Methodological Individualism/Collectivism – Agency/Structure

Wednesday Afternoon: Explanation and Understanding – the Variety of forms of Inquiry in the human and social sciences

Thursday Morning: The Social Dimension of Scientific Knowledge

Thursday Afternoon: Conceptions of Knowledge in relation to the human and social sciences as science

Friday Morning: Objectivity and Evidence – Evidence and Methodology

Friday Afternoon: Discussion and Evaluation of Course

The material for the course will be available in digital format. The material will consist of basic introductions to each topic and some original texts. You will get an overview of texts and their relation to each half-day.

The format of the course will be that each half-day consists of 3 hours with a first presentation of the issues and some discussion, then group work on the issues for 1 hour and then a plenum discussion for 1 hour. Group work will be on the basis of assignments and the introductory discussion. There will be groups of 4-5.
