Cooperative ideology and Danish housing cooperatives - with their secure tenure, special recruitment, work parties and other communal activities - have recently undergone major changes. In her new book, based on an ethnographic study of cooperative housing at the turn of the 21st century, Maja Hojer Bruun proposes new ways to think about urban commons. She explores contested claims of rights to urban commons - by cooperative occupants, city dwellers in general and the modern welfare state as a national ‘community’. The presentation opens up important moral economic debates related to communality, housing and other welfare goods.
Organized by research group: Educating for Viable Futures (EVF).
