Abstract
This talk gives an overview over recent research dealing with how differentiation in higher education such as for example the establishment of new university types such as university colleges or new degree programs are associated with inequality in access to higher education.
The talk will survey theoretical explanations, especially those dealing with the connection between educational expansion and the development of inequality and discuss in more detail research related to both inequality in choice of university types, fields of studies and the connection between different university certificates and labor market outcomes such as income or occupational prestige.
