Using data collected through the participation in a social network (Facebook) this talk presents the results of a study on the relationship between social integration and student retention. Data on student retention, prevalence of loneliness and a variety of other survey-based indicators of social well-being, are coupled with a social network dataset at the level of studylines from four Danish Universities. The question investigated is: What global networkstructural properties are related to studylines with high rates of retention and high rates of loneliness? Through statistical analysis it is shown that individualized network structures are related to much higher dropout rates and higher rates of loneliness.

Admission to the lecture is free.
