Denmark participates in the 2021 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS). The study is conducted among fourth-grade students in more than 60 countries and regions, and is now digital for about half of the participants.
PIRLS is a recurring study conducted every five years. Denmark has participated since 2006. This has made it possible to compare the reading skills of Danish students with the reading skills of students in other countries around the world over a number of years.
PIRLS consists of an assessment of students’ reading comprehension and the collection of background information from school leaders, teachers, parents and the students themselves.
