I am a trained social anthropologist from University of Copenhagen (M.Sc. 1996, PhD 2002) and have been involved in developing the subdiscipline of educational anthropology through a comparative and global perspective at the Danish School of Education. My thematic interests concentrate on:
· Migration and mobility; education-related migration, internationalisation and marketization of education.
· Public/private divides in formal education, inequality and financing of education.
· Mass-schooling, nation-building and family-based educational strategies
Most of my work is based on ethnographic research conducted in (and in relation to) Nepal, but also includes fieldwork experiences from India, Vietnam and Denmark. Moreover, my engagement involves North-South research collaborations and participation in research capacity building projects, especially in Nepal.
