I have been affiliated with Arabic and Islamic Studies and the Department of the Study of Religion since 2018. My research focuses particularly on the Arab Gulf states and especially Shia Muslims of various traditions. In the period 2021-2025 I am involved in a collective research project on the Dawoodi Bohras minority group across the Indian Ocean. Here I work together with Uwe Skoda (Global Studies AU), Isha Dubey (IIIT Hyderabad), Cecil Pallesen (AU and KØN Museum) and Mattias Gori Olesen (Arabic and Islamic Studies, AU). In this project I have done ethnographic fieldwork especially in Dubai, but also together with the project team visited India, East Africa and Cairo.
I mostly teach Middle Eastern culture and society, as well as introductory courses to Islam. Since 2022, I have been coordinator for Arabic and Islamic studies and represent this in the Education Board of the department.
I have a background in Anthropology and Sustainable Heritage Management, also at Aarhus University, and was also acting curator at Moesgaard Museum 2011-2014.
