Guidance researcher wins EU-award

The manager of the DPU's Guidance Research Unit, associate professor Peter Plant, has been awarded the EU's Helsinki Award.

Associate professor Peter Plant has been awarded the EU's Helsinki Award for the project 'Workplace Guidance'. Peter Plant has researched and designed the curriculum for Workplace Guidance (WG) since 2001. WG is a Leonard da Vinci-collaboration involving ten European countries. The project is aimed to provide people with little or no further education guidance in the workplace, and thereby to improve employees' opportunities to enrol in further- and post-vocational training.

One hundred and fifty projects in the fields of guidance and adult education competed for ten awards that were given at the EU summit in Helsinki on 4 December 2006. The awards were presented by the Finnish minister of Research and Education, Antti Kalliomäki and EU Commissioner for Education and Culture Ján Figel. The projects all contribute to the Copenhagen Process, which is the EU's project to improve the EU's competitive power through better vocational training.
