Abstract
Deakin University in Australia has vast experience in distance education. Recently, Deakin has worked with CISCO to develop a ‘smart campus’ and has won several national and international awards for its Cloud Learning (online), AI and VR learning spaces. Deakin’s AI Virtual Assistant, ‘Genie’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsRPuU53E74) has been named Australia’s top IT project.
This talk will reflect on Deakin’s long distance education history and how this has contributed to Deakin’s evolution and positioning as a university. It will then critically consider Deakin’s current on-line and distance education practices and explore connections between changes in pedagogy and Deakin’s Genie and smart campus.
