Dr Keamo Morwe (University of Venda in South Africa)
This photo exhibition, seminar and book launch will address the experiences of violence and wellbeing of young student activists during and after the far-reaching #RhodesMustFAll and #FeesMustFall protests in South Africa. Luescher and Morwe will present their Photovoice research on the wellbeing impacts of violence during the protests with student activists and student leaders from several South African universities. In their own voices, the activists recall the sacrifices of this student generation for the benefit of black and disadvantaged students to access public universities. They tell their stories through over 100 photos and related narratives that contextualise and explain their experiences, their meaning and significance. The seminar will focus on the research methodology used for the study, i.e., rapid photovoice, as a close-up, emancipatory action research method in educational studies.
