There is a strong desire from the Iranian people and civil society to want to belong to the global culture and community despite the government’s hostility to transfer of secular and democratic values of the West. As a sign of this English is seen as important in Iran. However learning English is problematic and students often do not appear to reach high levels of success.

The phd project uses both theoretical analysis and empirical data in order to investigate and explain the ineffectiveness of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme in Iranian universities.

Admission to the seminar is free.
