The notion of "mediation" is central to many theories of technology across many disciplines, from anthropology, to the philosophy of technology, to Science & Technology Studies. We will explore postphenomenology's conception of technological mediation, and its implications for how we should think about subjects, artifacts, and the objective world. Central to this discussion will be the postphenomenological notion of "multistability," i.e., the understanding that technologies can have different purposes and meanings for different users in different contexts. The cultural historical concept of mediation will be discussed in relation to multistability.

Future Technology, Culture and Learning invites to open seminars on postphenomenology and cultural historical theory.

Join the series of seminars with our guest professor Dr. Robert Rosenberger, Georgia Institute of Technology. The theme is connections between post-phenomenology and cultural historical theory.
