Karina Märcher Dalgas will speak about her research followed by a discussion.

Since the change of the millennium, thousands of Filipino migrants have been in Denmark on temporary au pair placement. While their presence in Denmark often has been debated from a labor market perspective, little attention has been attributed the educational dimensions of a journey from the Philippine lower middle classes to a life among relatively affluent families in Danish society. This presentation examines how educative dimensions of au pair placement can be viewed from a Philippine vantage point. Based on fieldwork in Denmark and in the Philippines among prospective, current, and former au pairs, I will explore the forms of social repositioning and self-making that the au pairs and their Philippine family members associate with a placement as au pair in Denmark.

The seminar, arranged by the research unit Mobility and Education, of the Department of Educational anthropology.

Everybody is welcome, no registration necessary (bring your lunch, if you like).
