Info about event

Time

Friday 31 October 2014,  at 09:00 - 11:30

Location

Room D170, Department of Education, Aarhus University, Campus Emdrup, Tuborgvej 164, 2400 Copenhagen NV

The first part of the session will focus on an analysis of the education, training and employment patterns of Australian women and men. The Australian situation will be contextualised by a comparison with the patterns found in a selection of other developed nations.

The second part of the session will explore a range of theories that have been used to explain any gendered differences in educational and employment outcomes. These theories include choice and preference theory, human capital theory and the capabilities approach. Also explored will be the extent to which the theories we use to understand the situation have a tangible impact on policy development.

This session will be divided into a lecture and structured small group activities.
