Ross’s research and development work is focused on exploring and examining youth violence and crime and the community-based youth engagement and policing strategies that are most effective in addressing these issues and in building safe, inclusive and flourishing communities. Ross have published books, book chapters and numerous articles in international, peer-reviewed journals on youth gangs, masculinity, street culture and violence and also on violence prevention strategies such as detached and pastoral street work, early intervention, participatory and democratic education and problem-oriented policing. We will hear about his latest work about dilemmas of ethics, when researching with in this contentious and difficult field.

Professor Ross Deuchar
is Assistant Dean (Research, Enterprise and International) within the School of Education and Director of the Centre for Youth Justice and Crime Prevention at the University of the West of Scotland.
