The British university system has, in recent years, been subjected to significant waves of transformations along clearly neoliberal lines, all in the name of increased competitiveness. This talk will provide an analysis of some of the key changes brought about by these transformations, and assess their impact on the status of education and knowledge as a whole in British society.

It shall be argued that, on the one hand, the state of British academia illustrates the tendency towards one-dimensionality explored by Marcuse decades ago and, on the other, that the emergence of alternative educational models provides a basis upon which resistance against such a tendency can be practiced and conceptualized.

Admission to the lecture is free.
